Philadelphia’s Post Haste Joins Global “Pay What You Can Day” on August 26
A unique global dining initiative is coming to Philadelphia this summer, giving diners the chance to enjoy a restaurant meal while paying whatever they can afford.
On Wednesday, August 26, restaurants across the globe will participate in the first-ever Global Pay What You Can Day, a movement designed to make dining more accessible while encouraging a more inclusive approach to hospitality.
Post Haste, located in Philadelphia’s East Kensington neighborhood, is the only restaurant in the Philadelphia region participating in the inaugural event.
The concept was launched by Masala y Maíz in Mexico City and has quickly expanded to include restaurants throughout the United States, Mexico, India, Turkey, Cuba, Colombia, Spain, and several other countries. Participating restaurants from cities including New York, Austin, New Orleans, Mumbai, Istanbul, Havana, and Bogotá will all embrace the same simple idea for one day: guests order what they want and pay what they can.
At Post Haste, diners can enjoy the restaurant’s food on August 26 with no minimum purchase, no qualifications, and no questions asked. (Alcohol is excluded from the program.)
The restaurant is already familiar with the concept. Earlier this year, Post Haste introduced Philadelphia’s only ongoing weekly Pay What You Can program on Sundays, making the event a natural extension of its mission. Chef Ari Miller was inspired to join the international initiative after collaborating with Telly Justice of New York City’s HAGS, whose work promoting equitable hospitality helped connect him with the growing movement.
As restaurant prices continue to rise, organizers hope Global Pay What You Can Day will encourage more people to gather around the table while demonstrating that hospitality can be both welcoming and community-focused.
Whether you’re looking to support an innovative restaurant, experience a different approach to dining, or simply enjoy a meal while contributing what you can, August 26 offers a chance to be part of a movement that is redefining what restaurant hospitality can look like.
If you’re planning to participate, be sure to visit Post Haste on August 26 and experience Philadelphia’s contribution to this worldwide event.
