Gluten-Free Bakery Flakely Grand Opens in Bryn Mawr
A new gluten-free destination has officially arrived on the Main Line. Last Friday, Flakely Gluten Free Bakery celebrated the grand opening of its first-ever brick-and-mortar storefront in Bryn Mawr, marking a major milestone for the beloved bakery brand known for its gluten-free pastries and breads.
Located at 1007 W. Lancaster Ave., the new storefront transforms Flakely from its longtime production kitchen roots in Manayunk into a full-service retail bakery where customers can browse fresh pastries daily.
Founded by pastry chef Lila Colello, Flakely has built a devoted following across the Philadelphia region for its gluten-free croissants, bagels, breads, danishes, and other baked goods that rival traditional wheat-based pastries. Colello launched the company in 2017 after being diagnosed with celiac disease and has since become widely recognized for mastering the difficult art of gluten-free laminated doughs.
The new Bryn Mawr bakery gives customers something they could not consistently get from the former Manayunk setup: freshly baked items available in a traditional pastry case. Previously, many of Flakely’s products were sold frozen or take-and-bake due to space limitations.
Inside the pastel-colored storefront, guests can now find sweet and savory croissants, cookies, baguettes, cupcakes, bagels, and rotating seasonal specialties. The bakery also continues to offer its popular frozen items for customers to enjoy at home.
The opening is also something of a homecoming for Colello, who grew up nearby in Ardmore. In recent years, Flakely has earned national attention, including recognition as one of the country’s best gluten-free bakeries by USA Today.
